Description: |
Terracotta intermediate sized model. This piece was the working sketch for the larger than life-size fountain sculpture executed for the Festival of Britain in 1951. Two macquettes of this sculpture have been acquired by the Henry Moore Study Centre, Leeds, England. The large work was produced originally for the Festival of Britain and sponsored by the Lockhead Brake Company. After the Festival the bronze statue was transported to Leamington Spa and erected at the Lockhead Brake Factory head office in Leamington Spa, Warwickshire, England. It became a permanent feature and symbol of the area. The sculpture was still working as a fountain gushing water from the mouths of the fish and turtle right up until it was stolen from the site in December 2001. If you have any information on it's whereabouts, please contact FineArtFacts immediately.
