The following is an excerpt from the artist's manuscript:

"Runding used to play the part of the Prince in the Djanger in her village. Though famous and photographed and filmed hundreds of times by visitors of Bali, she was a modest and quiet girl. When coming to my studio from her village to pose for a figure (shown later in this book), she always brought in the basket balanced on her head, some present, mostly fruit or flowers."
