Description: |
Designed by architect and sculptor Cosimo Fanzago the church was built between 1640 and 1663. The narrow street in Naples precluded an external staircase, and Fanzago ingeniously created an open screen with a double staircase behind leading to the entrance of the church at piano nobile level. The church has been much altered over the years, and was severely damaged by the earthquake of 1980 when the roof and vault collapsed. The drawing attempts to recreate the original design.
