Description: |
The Tempio Malatestiano was one of the earliest classical buildings in the Italian Renaissance, and Alberti's first ecclesiastical commission. His remodelling of S.Francesco Rimini as a monument to Sigismondo Malatesta and his mistress Isotta degli Atti remains unfinished due to a decline in Malatesta's fortunes. The conjectural drawing of the finished design is based on research by Robert Tavernor, Professor of Architecture at the University of Bath, published in his book On Alberti and the Art of Building. |
