Tomb of Eliza Roy, Comtesse de Lariboisière
Artist: |
Baron Carlo Marochetti
This group forms part of the tomb of Eliza Roy, Countess de Lariboisière (see main entry on the tomb). According to a report in the Gazette de France (7 June 1857), it represents a Young Mother with her Newborn Child, enjoying the benefits secured for her by the hospital. This account, and others from the years immediately following its installation, informs us that this figure like the other statuary placed at this level on the tomb, was once coloured, so thickly that it was virtually impossible to see that it was carved from marble.
