Palazzo Sanfelice, Naples 1723

Description: |
The staircase designed by Ferdinando Sanfelice (1675-1748) for his own palazzo in the Sanità district of Naples. This staircase became the inspiration for many others built subsequently in Naples, and allowed for separate entrances to multiple apartments from different landings. San Felice's own apartment was on the top floor and was frescoed by his tutor Francesco Solimena (1657-1747). The palazzo still exists in a much degraded form, and the drawing attempts a conjectural recreation of the top floor and the general decoration now lost. |
