Title:
|
Ideal Head of a Woman
|
Artist: |
Baron Carlo Marochetti
|
A plaster
bust of a woman, head turned down and to the side with hair floating back and a decorative hem
to her close-fitting garment . This bust
does not look like a portrait, and is very close to the figure called the Genius
of Good Works and Consolations in the group which is the central feature of
the tomb of Elisa Roy, Comtesse de Lariboisière, at the Lariboisière Hospital
in Paris (see entry). The Countess died in 1851, and Marochetti was discussing
the form the monument was to take with her husband towards the end of 1853. The
monument was put in place in the hospital chapel in 1857. So, if this is indeed
a study for that figure, its likely date would be around 1854.
