This small sculpture of St Gregory is a macquette for a large devotional work commissioned by the Beda College in Rome in 1986 to commemorate their Silver Jubilee. Fleischmann liked the macquette in its own right, so much so that he made several bronze casts for himself and as gifts for his patrons. Fleischmann kept this particular cast in his studio in London and mounted the bronze figure on clear Perspex obelisk.
