Memorial to James Charles Murray Cowell
Artist: |
Baron Carlo Marochetti
This is a cast of the memorial erected in St Paul's Cathedral, London, to a group of officers of the Coldstream Guards, including James Charles Murray Cowell. The soldier commemorated, before joining the guards, had been page of honour to Queen Victoria at her coronation and her wedding, and the Queen records having seen the memorial during a visit to Marochetti's studio on 7 March 1856. The bronze was probably cast in Marochetti's own foundry, using the plaster model from which the St Paul's memorial was carved.
