Baron Carlo Marochetti

The Rev. John de la Poer Beresford inherited the Marquessate of Waterford from his childless brother, Henry, the 3rd Marquess, in 1859. He was the incumbent of Mullaghbrack in County Armagh. His tomb was commissioned from Marochetti by his widow, Christiana, Marchionness of Waterford, and by her sister-in-law, Louisa Lady Waterford. Louisa Lady Waterford, who had been a childhood friend of the sculptor's wife, Camille, had previously commissioned from Marochetti a monument to her husband, Henry, 3rd Marquess for Clonegam church, and two to his uncle, John de la Poer Beresford, archbishop of Armagh, and Primate of Ireland, one of which, in Armagh Cathedral, takes the form of a full-length effigy. The other, a half-length of the same effigy is in Clonegam church. Louisa Lady Waterford wrote to a friend on 15 Jan. 1867, telling her that "Marochetti is to maker a marble tomb of poor Johnny".
