Tomb of Eliza Roy, Comtesse de Lariboisière
|
Artist: |
Baron Carlo Marochetti
|
This is the plaster model of the figure of an Old Man, which flanks the central niche on the Tomb of Eliza Roy, Comtesse de Lariboisière, which
Marochetti sculpted while in England, and which was recorded as being in place
in the Hôpital Lariboisière, Paris, by June 1857 (Gazette de France, 7
June 1857). S. Lami, in his Dictionnaire des sculpteurs de l'école française
au XIXème, informs us that the Comte de Lariboisière, who had commissioned
the tomb, presented the plaster model for it to the Musée de Rennes. This is
one of two old photographs of which copies were obtained from the Archives d'Ile
et Vilaine in Rennes by the author, showing different features of the tomb. It
has not been possible to establish whether these plaster models are still
housed in the museum. (For a more comprehensive account of this work, see th emtry on the tomb itself)
