Erin
Artist: |
Baron Carlo Marochetti
This image shows the plaster model of the figure of Erin, which Marochetti executed for the Marquis of Dufferin (see entry on the statue). It is a personification of Ireland as a wild-haired woman, seated on a wave-lashed rock, holding a harp, and with an Irish wolf-hound at her side. The present whereabouts of the finished statue in marble and with a bronze harp, is unknown. This photograph, taken by Camille Silvy is included in his day-book for the period May-June 1862. As well as exhibiting some of his works in Silvy's Bayswater photographic studio, Marochetti occasionally required Silvy's services in his own studio. |
