Andrew Stephenson Dalglish (1793-1858) was the son of Robert Dalglish,
the Lord Provost of Glasgow. and brother of Robert Dalglish MP. He was
a calico printer and prominent Glasgow citizen. His brother had played
a part in getting Marochetti's statue of the Duke of Wellington erected
in the city in 1841. This is a miniature version of a marble bust in the Kelvingrove Art Gallery, Glasgow. The Glasgow marble and another bust by Marochetti in the gallery, representing Catherine Lamond, are both dated 1849, and like the
portrait relief of the Glasgow politician, James Oswald, similarly dated, these busts indicate the sculptor's determination, immediately
after settling in Britain, to renew links with a city in which he had
enjoyed earlier success.
