Baron Carlo Marochetti

This reduced but not miniature bronze reproduces the marble bust which was based on a model produced from the life by Marochetti in 1848/49. A sand cast bronze it still bears the rough edges where the two sections of the mould joined. These have not been removed by the ciseleur. What was probably a more finished bronze of this bust was shown in the Great Exhibition at the Crystal Palace. A reporter for the Morning Chronicle (15 Sept.1851), in a survey of the bronzes at the exhibition, described it as "a dignified resemblance, retaining the utmost fidelity".
