Glynis Jones Owen

1945 -

(also called Glynis Beecroft and Glynis Beecroft Owen) Sculptor. She trained at Portsmouth College of Art (1962-66) and Goldsmiths College School of Art (1966-67). She has taught at West Dean College, Sussex, and at Southampton College of Art, and has worked as an assistant to Lynn Chadwick. She has worked with many different materials, including cast and welded metal, but her preference is for stone carving. A three figure Family Group in stone for Stevenage town centre, which was inaugurated in 1982, has since suffered from vandalism and inept restoration. In the spring and summer of 1996, she showed a series of stone sculptures representing lovers from opera, inspired by the works of Mozart, Richard Strauss and Rossini, at Glyndebourne Festival Opera. In December 2003, her bronze resin relief, Stafford Faces, celebrating historic figures connected with the town, alternating with historic buildings, was unveiled in Stafford. She has written several books on sculpture techniques for Batsfords. She became an associate of the Royal Society of British Sculptors in 1976, and a fellow in 1990.
