After the success in 2004 of his exhibition Inferno: Eternal Seduction which featured paintings, raku-fired sculptured panels and imposing 3-metres high doors (one with raku panels, the other with bronze panels). Emanuele has spent the past 4 years on a new collection of very large paintings and raku panels incorporating compositional groups with the common theme of the human form in action. From the depiction of the human form in a sculptural manner, a new passion for sculpture itself has evolved, and Emanuele has returned to his roots in Tuscany to achieve this. The marble quarries of Carrara and the neighbouring town of Pietrasanta have attracted sculptors since Greek and Roman times and Michelangelo chose all his marble from there. The dramatic centrepiece of this exhibition is a 2.5 metres high bronze sculpture of a male figure calledSilent Scream, cast by a foundry in Pietrasanta. The sculpture is a unique piece, not one of an edition, as Emanuele's interest is to produce one statement of his art, not to replicate it. Emanuele says: 'Silent Scream is a representation of that irrational rage which sometimes takes us over. It is silent because it is dangerous to express it.' Emanuele Gori was born in Viareggio, in the Italian region of Tuscany. At the age of fourteen, he was accepted for study at the Liceo Artistico in Carrara, where he studied until 1974, exhibiting during these years in Carrara and Viareggio. At the Viareggio International Competition in 1972 he was, at the age of 16, among the prizewinners selected from over 200 established international artists, his painting being shown at one of the city's galleries, to critical acclaim. He moved to London in 1976, attracted by the 'gothic horror' of 1970's Britain: 'I lived in Florence where there is beauty and light everywhere, but for some Italians, the gloom and doom of northern Europe is exciting, strange and exotic.' Emanuele has held exhibitions in Italy and London, and his work is held in private collections in Italy, Great Britain, France, Germany, the Netherlands, the United States and Australia. He lives in Covent Garden and works from studios in Hackney and Pietrasanta.
